PURPOSE AND SCOPE

CSULB is committed to supporting sustainable transportation options for our campus community. This is in accordance with the South Coast Air Quality Management District requirement for all companies with over 250 employees in the South Coast Air Basin to have an employee commute reduction program in place.  The purpose of this guideline is to support sustainable transportation choices and reduce single occupancy vehicle commutes by providing University employees with van rental subsidies to encourage their participation in our Vanpool Program.

GUIDELINE STATEMENT

CSULB Vanpool Program

CSULB vanpools consist of 5 to 12 full-time year-round staff members who live 15 miles or more from the campus and who together rent a van through Enterprise Rideshare to commute to and from the campus. Participants are eligible for both individual and group subsidies towards the cost of the monthly van rental.

Employee vanpool benefit eligibility and limitations

All currently employed full-time year-round staff members who live 15 miles or more from the campus are eligible for the Vanpool Program. Students, faculty, temporary workers, and part-time staff are not eligible for vanpool, as they do not have the consistent year-round 8-hour/day work schedule that is necessary to maintain an ongoing vanpool.

Full-time University employees in groups of 5 or more who elect to form a vanpool and who sign a van rental agreement with Enterprise Rideshare are eligible for:

  • $400 per month van rental subsidy from their local Metropolitan Planning Organization
  • $40/month per driver or $20/month per passenger van rental subsidy from CSULB Parking and Transportation
  • Pre-tax payroll deduction for any out of pocket cost towards the van rental

Employees who receive a vanpool subsidy are not eligible for any additional benefits, such as Rideshare Rewards Points.

Please contact the Sustainable Transportation Coordinator at (562) 985-4091 or sustainabletransportation@csulb.edu if you have any questions.

PROCEDURES

University employees who live 15 miles or more from the campus but within 3 miles of each other and a Park-And-Ride facility may be invited by Parking and Transportation Services to attend a vanpool formation meeting.  If 5 or more employees agree to form a vanpool, then they:

  • Sign a van rental agreement with Enterprise Rideshare
  • Sign up for a $400/month rental subsidy for their local Metropolitan Planning Organization
  • Sign up for CSULB Sustainable Transportation monthly subsidy as a passenger or as a driver
  • Sign up for pre-tax payroll deduction to cover the remainder of the van rental cost
  • Drivers must pass a medical exam and a DMV check

FORMS AND INSTRUCTIONS

All hard copies of forms and instructions will be provided by Parking and Transportation Services to participants upon their agreement to form a CSULB vanpool.
