ADMINISTRATIVE GUIDELINE
A stipend is an additional monthly payment made to an employee under specific circumstances for a limited period of time with the exception of SUPA or University Police. The CSU/UAPD, CSU/CSUEU, CSU/SETC, and CSU/UPAD collective bargaining agreements provide for employee stipends. Typically, the appropriate administrator (level 4) will assign additional work or special project duties on a temporary basis over and above the regularly assigned duties of a position. Staff Human Resources is responsible for administering stipends for units 1, 2, 5, 6, 7, 8, and 9 in accordance with each collective bargaining agreement.
UAPD (unit 1): An employee may be eligible for a stipend when the appropriate administrator assigns temporary project coordination or lead work functions over and above the regularly assigned duties. Work must be temporary in nature and must have a specific beginning and end date. Stipends are an increase to the employee's base monthly salary and will be paid on a monthly basis for the duration of the temporary appointment. Stipend amounts will be determined by the appropriate administrator in consultation with Staff Human Resources. All stipends will be awarded in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
CSUEU (units 2, 5, 7, and 9): Employees may be eligible for a stipend when the appropriate administrator assigns additional work, special projects, or lead functions over and above the regularly assigned duties or when an employee is required to maintain contact with their campus outside of normal working hours on a regular basis. Work must be temporary in nature and must have a specific beginning and end date. Stipends shall be between 3% and 10% of the employee's base monthly salary and be paid on a monthly basis for the duration of the temporary appointment. All stipends will be awarded in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
SUPA (unit 8): Employees may be eligible for a stipend upon completion of an Intermediate or Advanced P.O.S.T Certification or when a special assignment is given to an employee by the appropriate administrator and in accordance with the collective bargaining agreement.
Staff Human Resources must approve all stipends prior to assigning any additional duties as listed in the criteria above to the employee. Retroactive stipends will not be awarded.
