Final Exams Schedule Change for Wednesday-only Classes

Please note the schedule for final examinations for the fall semester is Thursday, December 12 to Wednesday, December 18, with one exception.

Wednesday-only classes currently scheduled for final examinations on Wednesday, December 18 will have their finals rescheduled at the same time on Wednesday, December 11.   This change affects only those classes meeting once per week on Wednesday with finals scheduled on Wednesday, December 18.

Special events should not be scheduled in instructional spaces on Wednesday, December 11.

This change was recommended by the Campus Academic Calendar Committee because students in the affected classes would have a two-week hiatus between the end of instruction on Wednesday, December 4th and finals scheduled for Wednesday, December 18.

Students are unlikely to experience any conflicts as Wednesday, December 11 is a scheduled “quiet” day between the end of instruction and the first day of finals on Thursday, December 12.

Faster CSULB Wireless Network Performance

BeachNet+ is now available for use by faculty and staff for faster, more reliable, and more secure wireless network experience.  Speeds are over ten times as fast as the basic BeachNet service and data is protected by encryption.

BeachNet+ will replace the “campus-domain” wireless network which will be phased out in the coming months.  We recommend connecting to BeachNet+ soon if you have not already done so.  While basic BeachNet will remain in service, its intended use is by guests and other campus community members.  You can visit the Wireless Network webpage for links to wireless connection instructions for various device types (i.e. Windows, Mac, iPhone, Android).

BeachNet+ for faculty and staff has the following advantages over basic BeachNet:

  • BeachNet+ is safe - It protects data from unwanted capture by encrypting it as it passes data between computing devices and wireless access points. Basic Beachnet provides the same level of security users can expect for free wifi offered at coffee shops, hotels, or airports.
  • BeachNet+ is easy – Connecting to BeachNet+ is the same process used to connect to personal/home wifi networks.  Like home wifi network, your device automatically signs in to BeachNet+.  A web browser is not required to authenticate (sign-in) so you won’t be prompted to enter your BeachID credentials as often as with BeachNet.
  • BeachNet+ is convenient - Most devices connected to BeachNet+ will automatically retain necessary credentials without prompting users to re-enter them, even after periods of inactivity or roaming between locations across campus.

Wireless configured devices purchased after January 2007 should be compatible with BeachNet+; however, the basic BeachNet wireless network will remain available to support guest and campus community access including those with older devices.

Student, Faculty, and Staff use of BeachNet+ is part of a strategy to improve the campus’ wireless network performance and coverage.  Plans are in work to expand the number of wireless access points across the campus, including some common outdoor areas.  More information will come as this project continues.

Questions or help using BeachNet+ can be answered by visiting the Wireless Network webpage or contacting your college or department technical coordinator.
