Dental Benefits

The CSU offers two types of dental plans, a managed fee-for-service plan and a prepaid plan. Delta Premier Dental is the CSU's managed fee-for-service dental plan. Delta Care (PMI) is the CSU's prepaid dental plan. Provisions of Collective Bargaining Agreements may modify dental plan benefits. At this time, the employer pays the monthly premiums for both dental plans.

Monthly Premium

Currently the full monthly premium is paid by the CSU. However, premium costs are subject to change.

Employees are eligible if appointed half-time or more for a period of more than six (6) months.

Lecturers and Coaches appointed for a minimum of one semester or two consecutive quarters at .4 timebase or greater are eligible for benefits. Coaches (Non-academic calendar year) and Lectures (12 month appointments) are eligible for benefits if appointed half-time or more for a period of more than six (6) months. Exclusions: Faculty appointed solely to teach summer session, extension or intersession are not eligible for benefits.

Employees appointed on an hourly, intermittent basis do not qualify for benefits.

To enroll, you must complete the Benefits Enrollment Worksheet along with any required documentation for eligible dependent(s) at Benefits Services. The deadline to enroll is 60 calendar days from date of eligibility. You may begin to use your dental plan when the deduction description Delta II or PMI 2 appears on your pay warrant stub.

Employees, annuitants and their family members may only be enrolled in one CSU or state sponsored dental plan at a time (no dual enrollments). Dependent children who can be covered on either parent's (or legal guardian's or domestic partner's) dental coverage because both are employed by the CSU and/or the state can only be enrolled as a dependent under one parent in one plan. The enrollment cannot be split between parents. For example, if five (5) children can be covered under either parent, one parent must list all five children as dependents.

An employee who is also a family member of a CSU or State employee may not be enrolled in both as an employee and a family member, including domestic partners.

State-sponsored dental plans include: Another CSU campus; another state agency; CalPERS or CalSTRS retiree coverage; or CalPERS or CalSTRS as a survivor of a retiree or deceased employee.
