Conducting the Reference Check
You must thoroughly reference check any candidate. Check with former supervisors, co-workers, and possibly subordinates. Verify pay, job responsibilities, working relationships, and job performance. It is worth it.
In the Comments section of the Offer page, include who did the reference check and what company was called.
