Starting Your Printing Project

The best way to start any project is to gather as much information as possible about the job before you call the Print Shop.

Make a list of specifications and include:

  • a general description
  • quantity needed
  • paper stock used
  • color of inks
  • finished size
  • number of pages
  • budget
  • time estimation for completion

Estimates

Once you have written down your job specifications, call The Print Shop for an estimate. Depending on the size and complexity of the job, an estimate should take about 24 hours. Remember that the more accurate your specifications are, the more accurate our estimate will be. If our quote runs over your budget, ask us to suggest ways to cut the cost. Also, remember that if there are problems with your artwork, files, or the specifications change in any way, the quote will not be valid.

How to Fill Out the Work Request Form

All jobs must have a properly completed Work Request Form attached when submitted.

Work Request Form

The form must contain the following information:

  • Department name
  • FUND and DEPT ID numbers (i.e.: GF001, 00128)
  • Requisition number
  • Phone and fax numbers of primary contact
  • Building and room number for delivery of completed work
  • Date work required by (please do not put "ASAP"!)
  • Title of the work
  • Form number (if any)
  • Account authorizing signature (REQUIRED!)

To fill out the remaining parts of your form you may:

  • Transfer your specifications to the form
  • Attach your specifications or estimate sheet
  • Call us for assistance

Once the form is completed, keep a copy for your records, then submit the Work Request Form with your job. Please enclose all samples and media in a separate envelope stapled to the work order. All work orders are tracked by the requisit on number. When calling to check on the progress of your order, make sure you have your copy of the work order so that we can more easily trace it.
