beachnet Guest Access Wireless Network

Beachnet Guest Access login page

The “beachnet-guest-access” network is for university guests, such as prospective students and their family, vendors, alumni, event participants, and other visitors requiring temporary WiFi access. Guests can obtain access in one of two ways:

  • For short term Guest Access, use the Self-Registration process to generate a one-day logon pass. Steps include:
    • In device WiFi settings, connect to the “beachnet-guest-access” network.
    • Open a browser, which will then display the campus guest login page.
    • Click on the “Self-register” link in the box on the right. This will lead you through the process.

For longer term Guest Access, users will require a college or department sponsor to request either a one day, one week, 30 day, or 90 day logon pass. Sponsors are typically department staff organizing events on campus.

Wireless Security on beachnet Guest Access

Unless precautions are taken, such as using SSL-enabled websites ( i.e., MyCSULB ) when using the Internet, beachnet is NOT an encrypted wireless network. All traffic is sent through the air on radio waves which can be overhead and captured by nearby users. There are no easy ways of detecting other "listeners", so caution and careful use of the Internet is strongly advised.

If your device supports it, you may use the beachnet+ network to encrypt your wireless traffic.

Wired classrooms and Laptop Stations

Data outlets in wired classrooms and at computer lab laptop stations are automatically on beachnet. Connect the laptop, then open a web browser to any web page off campus. The web browser will then be directed to the same login page used by wireless users.
