Wired Network Services

The CSU Long Beach Data Network is composed of primarily Cisco routers and switches offering 100 Megabit (FastEthernet) links to desktops, and interconnected with Gigabit fiber links. The core of the network processes some 100 to 200 million network “conversations” between different computers on the network and the Internet daily.

A high degree of redundancy is built in to the network, so that a single device outage only affects as small an area as possible.

New data network connections can be requested through a Telecommunications Work Order. Consultation with your local Information Technology Coordinator is advised because the final step in connecting new devices is done only with their involvement.

Network Services also provides network patch cables free of charge to Information Technology Coordinators. The orange color is our distinctive brand. Cables are available in lengths of 7, 15, 25, and 40 feet most of the time.
