If you have a question not answered here, please email its-service@csulb.edu.

General

1. Do I have to use Outlook as an email client?

No. The following email clients are supported:

  • Outlook 2016/2013/2011 (MAc and PC)
  • MacMail(Mac)
  • Outlook Web App (web browsers)
2. Why can’t students view faculty/staff calendars?

Many faculty members prefer to post their office hours and schedule meetings around specific time windows and communicate that information to students, thus alleviating the need for student access to faculty calendars for free and busy time.

3. Can I access my CSULB email from home or other locations away from campus?

Yes. You can access email messages, contacts, tasks and calendaring from any computer through:

  • Outlook Web App (web browser)

4. What email clients can I use to access my email account?

If you prefer to use an email client instead of the Outlook Web App (OWA) you can use:

  • Outlook 2016/2013/2011 (Mac and PC) or MacMail (Mac)

If you do not have Outlook on your home computer and would like to install it, students, faculty and staff can learn more about installing Office 365 programs.

7. What is Microsoft exchange?

Microsoft Exchange is the employee email system provided to campus employees. The system provides the campus with email, calendar and contacts on personal computers, mobile devices, and web.

8. How do BeachBoard and the campus Emergency Notification System interact with my email account?

The email service has no impact on BeachBoard or the Emergency Notification system. Those systems send messages to your preferred email address as specified in MyCSULB.

9. Will I be able to easily find and email other faculty and staff in the system?

Yes. All employees are searchable in the (GAL) Global Address List within your new email account.

10. How can I connect my voicemail to my email?

If you wish to receive a copy of your voice messages in your @csulb email box, follow these steps:

  • Log into the Web Phone Manager (http://voicemail.csulb.edu)
  • Select "Notification Settings"
  • Click the"E-Mail" tab on the top
  • Select the "Enable Simple UM Notification" and "Include WAV Attachment" boxes and ensure your email address is correct
  • Save your changes by clicking the "OK" button
11. Can I request a change to my email account name?

Your employee email address is generated automatically using your name as it's entered in campus, Foundation, or auxiliary HR systems. If you prefer to use a different name for your email address, you will need to request to “Change Preferred Name” in your MyCSULB account’s Employee Center (Personal Information Home>Names>Contact Us). Note that vanity names (for example, prospector.pete@csulb.edu) are not accepted.

12. How do I protect my email account?

Only open email from contacts you recognize, and never open unknown attachments. If you receive such email, simply delete it and empty your trash. It's important to note that a university help desk or technical support staff will never ask you for your password via email.

Email account holders are responsible for safeguarding access to their campus email when using any computing device. You can refer to the CSULB Campus Computer Usage and Safety Guidelines for additional information.
