Custodial Services provides housekeeping for all University buildings except the University Student Union, Student Housing, Bookstore, Cafeteria, Outpost (49er Shops) and Foundation facilities. Services are currently provided on evenings and weekends by order of the President.
Currently, the university building rooms, restrooms, and areas are utilized at full capacity during the fall and spring terms. Since there is a reduction in building use during the fall/spring breaks and summer classes, staffing assignments are adjusted to concentrate on specialized project work and heavy cleaning that cannot be completed during periods of high volume building use.

A portion of custodial services is provided to the campus on a contract basis with an outside company.
The work is divided into two zones:
The contract is written to clearly indicate task and frequency of cleaning in contract locations. The contract is monitored within Facilities Management on such indicators as daily reporting of staff utilization and quantity and quality of work accomplished. Periodic random inspections of cleaning areas and chemicals by the Facilities Management manager are included in the contract. The goal is for custodial services to be at the same level or standard whether provided by in-house or contract providers.
