Energy and Controls Management

Many of the buildings on campus are controlled with electronic temperature control systems. These building require special attention for control of their comfort systems and energy management systems. This task is performed by the Facility Control Specialists. They are able to monitor and control building comfort systems from the Energy Office located in Facilities Management.

To Schedule HVAC Equipment

Most heating and air conditioning equipment must be scheduled to run on a specific time and day. This is accomplished through programming into one of many campus energy management systems (EMS). Most of the equipment schedules are based on a weekly room occupancy list provided to Facilities Management by Academic Events Scheduling.

Customers may submit in writing, any equipment scheduling request, directly to the Customer Service Center, provided the event has already been approved and cleared through the appropriate channels. For questions regarding campus energy use, energy conservation and other energy related questions, contact the Customer Service Center at extension 5-4357.

Life Safety Fire Detection Systems

Most buildings on campus are equipped with fire detection systems that generate an audible and visual warning when activated manually via a pull station or automatically by a smoke detector. Most fire detection systems are monitored 24 hours a day and will report to Public Safety when activated or when system trouble is diagnosed through an internal self-test routine.
