As a signatory to the American College & University Presidents’ Climate Commitment, CSULB is committed to reducing carbon emissions from our campus and integrating sustainability practices into our curriculum and facility operations. Recycling is a sustainable activity from many perspectives, including: conserving valuable natural resources, reducing energy consumption in the manufacturing of goods, creating jobs, stimulating business development, extending the life of landfills, and reducing landfill disposal costs.
Additionally, like all state agencies in California, CSULB is required by law (SB 1016) to divert from landfill 50 percent of the trash discarded from our facility.
Physical Planning & Facilities Management (PPFM) is responsible for ensuring that CSULB meets the recycling requirements established by law and is dedicated to making waste diversion practices on campus as easy as possible. If you have comments or suggestions on how to improve the university’s recycling efforts, we welcome your feedback.
