Energy Efficiency & GHG Reduction

• Registered 2006 Green House Gas emissions with California Climate Action Registry through CSU system-wide reporting
• Implemented Energy Efficiency and GHG reduction projects with UC/CSU Energy Partnership
• Reduced regional power demands via the Central Plant Thermal Energy System
• Installed state of the art solid state LED lighting systems in Parking Structure 3

Renewable and Clean Energy

• Installed Solar Photovoltaic systems in (3) campus buildings with a total capacity of 350 KW
• Proposed Fuel Cell Project as a source of clean power to the campus that will allow use of waste heat and attain thermal efficiencies of up to 80%. Read more about the Fuel cell project

Recycling

• Established a well developed Integrated Waste Management Program
• Consistently maintained diversion rates of 70% since 2004 surpassing AB75 mandates of 50% diversion

Water Conservation

• Installed over 300 waterless and low flow urinals
• Installed touch free faucets in restrooms to improve hygiene and eliminate water waste
• Installed a centralized weather based landscape irrigation system

Green Buildings

• All new buildings will be designed and constructed to US Green Building LEED standards or equivalent using the CSU Sustainability Measurement System
• The new Hall of Science building will be built using Green building LEED equivalent guidelines
• The new Student Wellness and Recreation Center will be registered as a Green building through LEED and will achieve at least a LEED silver rating
• The new addition to the Nursing building will be built using LEED Green building equivalent guideline.

Custodial Services

• Utilizing “Green Seal” environmentally friendly cleaning products and practices
• Utilizing non paper based hand drying systems
• Use of concentrated cleaning products to reduce the environmental impact on shipping

Green Landscaping Practices

• Implemented drought tolerant landscaping methods
• Utilizing a weather based irrigation system
• Utilizing and have expansion plans for reclaimed water for irrigation
• Implemented a Green Waste to Mulch program
• Implemented Integrated Pest Management Control strategies

Transportation

• Maintains one the largest fleet of electric powered vehicles
• Fleet of electric powered vehicles recharged from solar power

Environmental Preferred Purchasing

• Established EPP user group to evaluate products used in FM operations for the purpose of substituting more recycled and environmentally friendly products when economically and operationally feasible
• CSULB and PPFM support the CSU Buy Recycled Campaign
