On July 19, 2003 10:49 PM, an adult female 22 years of age was approached and grabbed by an unknown male suspect. This suspect described as 25-30 years of age. Because the suspect wore a knitted mask at the time of the assault, the victim could not report a possible race. The suspect fled the area in a dark colored vehicle, possibly a Toyota.
The victim in this case was jogging in parking lot 17 and sustained no known injuries. The victim stated that the unknown suspect attempted to pull her towards him and in the process tore her shirt sleeve.
There are no additional details available for this incident.
On
Tuesday, July 22, 2003 at approximately 5:00 PM, a juvenile
female 15 years of age was accosted by an unknown male suspect
driving a vehicle through parking Lot 15. The male suspect
is described as a male white wearing a black suit with a
white shirt and red tie. The suspect pulled the victim with
his two hands and attempted to pull her inside the vehicle.
The victim fought back and struck the suspect three times
with her CD case bag. The suspect left the scene and fled
in an unknown direction.
The suspect’s vehicle is described a late 90’s model Nissan Altima, silver in color. The victim in this case also reported seeing “Mardi Gras” or similar-type beads hanging from the suspect vehicle’s rearview mirror. There is no additional information available at this time.
These cases have a small series of similar characteristics and are being investigated as possibly related incidents. There are no indications however that the person(s) responsible in either case are the same. The University Police Department seeks additional information in each case and asks that anyone with more information concerning either event to call Detective Rick Goodwin or the on-duty Watch Commander at (562) 985-4101.
