On Friday September 17 at approximately 12:15 PM, a Facilities Management staff member reported a suspicious person in the area of the KKJZ radio station. University Police arrived and detained the described male subject for the purposes of a field interview.

The suspect, later identified as Leonard Dedman, spoke with investigators and disclosed that he was on parole for a series of criminal sex offenses. Dedman, who is homeless, later told the investigators that he had come to CSU Long Beach with the intention to sexually assault a female on this campus. Dedman also admitted that he had avoided registering his place of residence and employment—a violation of his terms of parole.

Based on these admissions from the suspect he was subsequently taken into custody. Dedman is currently in custody awaiting sentencing for these violations of the terms of his parole.
