Risk Management involves the identification and evaluation of risks which could result in financial or programmatic losses to an organization and the selection of appropriate responses to them. Losses arise from injury to persons, damage of property, regulatory liability, criminal and civil liability, contractual liability, loss of revenue, disasters or interruption of the achievement of the mission of the University.

The office of Safety and Risk Management at California State University, Long Beach is responsible for developing campus procedures, practices and guidelines designed to reduce or eliminate losses and for providing assistance to the University and its managers and employees so that they may manage risk without unduly curtailing or modifying activities of the University.
