How Do You Recycle Electronic Waste
(e-wste) From Your Home?

Disposing electronic waste like computers, televisions, lap-tops, etc. can be expensive and damaging to the environment. So…how do get rid of it safely and legally? The City of Long Beach and a host of other civic sponsors have established drop off locations where your personal e-waste can be recycled.

To find out the locations, dates and time where you can drop of your e-waste free of charge, visit http://www.ewastelb.com

Additionally, the state has a database of approved e-waste recyclers in every county in California. The database can be found at the following link: www.dtsc.ca.gov/database/UWED/counties.map.cfm

Foreign Travel Insurance Program (FTIP) Update

The university provides Foreign Travel Insurance for all students, faculty, and staff participating in short-term study abroad programs. This insurance is required for this type of travel and it is administered by SRM. Specifically, it covers short-term, study-abroad programs along with coverage for participants traveling for seminars, conferences, and approved research projects. The policy includes the following scope of coverage:

  • Medical coverage for accidents and sickness
  • Accidental death and dismemberment
  • Excess automobile liability and physical damage
  • Dental expenses caused by an accident or injury
  • Emergency medical evacuation and repatriation of remains
  • General liability insurance

Additionally, the program provides for emergency medical, travel, personal and security services with 24 hours of bound coverage. It will also assist with replacing lost documents and provides for legal assistance with local attorneys.

In order to bind coverage, the faculty or staff person needs to complete the Foreign Travel Participant List found on SRM’s website. The completed form must be sent to SRM (to Barbara Sasser) electronically, by fax or inter-office campus mail. The form provides necessary emergency contact information for participants and information on the travel destination. A confirmation email will be sent to the faculty member or staff person once coverage is bound. An information sheet on the program is included for distribution to all travel participants.

Lastly, all students traveling abroad must complete a General Release of Claims, an Air Travel notification and a Medical Disclosure and the Assumption of Risk form. The completed forms must be kept on file with the College/Department for at least one-year after return from the travel. Please see the SRM also for procedures and forms. A summary of the FTIP can also be found on the SRM website. For policy limits or other questions regarding university travel abroad, please contact our Risk Manager, Barbara Sasser, at ext. 52396 or e-mail her at bsasser@csulb.edu.

CSULB’s Return to Work Program (RTW) is Now Available!

CSULB’s Return to Work (RTW) Program has been updated! The goal of the Return to Work Program is the safe, rapid return of all injured or ill employees to transitional or regular employment whether the injury is job-related or not. The program is designed to return an employee to work by providing appropriate temporary, alternative or modified job duties that best suit the employee’s work restrictions as defined by the primary treating physician. The program is not intended to create new permanent positions within University colleges or departments.

For additional information or a hard copy of the RTW Program, go to the following link: http://daf.csulb.edu/offices/univ_svcs/safetyrisk/programs/ disability/index.html

Additionally, SRM is also offering a RTW training class for anyone interested in learning about the comprehensive benefits of this program. Please check SRM’s training calendar on our web site or watch for Staff HR’s monthly training flyer for the next scheduled class. If you have any questions and/or feedback, please contact us.
