100 — Aerial Lift

This course instructs the participants on cart pre-use inspection, safe operation of aerial lifts, required PPE and fall restraint

101 — Asbestos Awareness

This course instructs the participants on the possible locations of ACCM, the health hazards of asbestos.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM), Custodians, Telecom, Academic Facility Coordinators (AFC), Construction Inspectors
  • Refresher: Biennial

102 — Asbestos O & M

This course instructs the participants on the possible locations of ACCM, the health hazards of asbestos and how to safely work with ACCM.

  • Duration: 16 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM)
  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed

103 — Asbestos O & M Refresher

An annual refresher class for the “Asbestos O & M” class.

  • Duration: 2 hours

110 — Backflow Prevention

This course instructs the participants the basics of Backflow Prevention. Included are OCSD requirements for reporting failures and requesting potable water hook-ups.

  • Refresher: Biennial

111 — Bloodborne Pathogens

This course instructs participants on how to identify, understand and properly respond to situations involving exposure to blood or potentially infectious materials. This course requires passing a qualification examination at the completion of the course.

  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM), Custodial, Student Health Center, K/PE, Auxiliaries (Center for Behavioral Studies)

112 — Boat Crane and Hoist

This course instructs the participants on how to properly and safely operate the boat crane and hoist. Included are pre-use inspections, controls, lifts, load movement. This course requires a qualification exam at completion of the course.

  • Recommended Audience: College of Natural Science and Mathematics (CNSM)
  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed

C

120 — CPR / AED

This course instructs the participants on CPR and AED usage. The course requires a proficiency exam. Participants receive a CPR card.

  • Duration: 4 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM), Safety & Risk Management (SRM), University Police (UP), Other confined-space qualified staff
  • Refresher: Annual

121 — CPR Professional

This course instructs only OCSD Medical Team members on CPR. Participants are required to pass a proficiency examination and will receive a CPR card at completion of the course.

122 — Confined Space Qualified Initial

This course instructs the participants on both the Cal OSHA Title 8, Sec. 5157 Regulations and the District Confined Space Entry program training also includes confined space hazard identification, hazard mitigation, job assignments and their individual responsibilities, preparation of the confined space entry procedure, entry permit and atmospheric monitoring refresher.

123 — Confined Space Qualified Refresher

This course is a refresher class for the initial confined-space entry course.

124 — Construction Safety

This course provides participants with an overview of construction safety regulations and hazard recognition.

  • Duration: 30 hours
  • Recommended Audience: PPFM Construction Management Inspectors and Project Managers
  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed.

130 — Defensive Driving

This course instructs the participant how to drive a district vehicle in a defensive manner to avoid an accident. Included are being alert to what’s happening around you while driving.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: All university employees who’s job requires them to drive university-owned Vehicles
  • Refresher: Every 4 years

140 — Electric Cart Driving

This course instructs the participants on cart pre-use inspection, safe operation of carts and Districts in-plant traffic safety requirements.

  • Recommended Audience: Electric cart users
  • Refresher: Biennial

141 — Evacuation

This course instructs participants on building /plant evacuation principles. Included are alarm systems, exit routes, shelter in place, site meeting areas.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: All university Employees
  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed

150 — Fire Extinguisher Safety

This course instructs the participants on fire prevention, fire classifications, types of fire extinguishers and hands on fire fighting techniques using extinguishers.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: All employees and volunteer “Building Marshals”
  • Refresher: Annual

151 — First Aid

This course instructs the participants on basic first aid principles. The course requires a proficiency exam. Participants receive a first aid card.

  • Duration: 8 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Confined-space qualified employees
  • Refresher: Every third year

152 — First Responder Operational (FRO)

This course instructs the participants on defensive measures to take to control hazardous materials spills.

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Safety & Risk Management (SRM), Emergency Response Group (ERG), Search & Rescue (SAR)
  • Refresher: Annual

153 — Forklift Safety

This course instructs the participants on pre-use inspection, record-keeping, and the safe operation of district owned forklifts, training also includes both a written and practical operations test.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM)
  • Refresher: Annual

154 — Formaldehyde

This course instructs participants on their rights under the formaldehyde standard including hazards of formaldehyde, monitoring, and medical surveillance requirements.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: All employees who work with formaldehyde
  • Refresher: Annual

170 — Hazard Communication

This course instructs the participants about the basics of the district’s chemical hazard communication program. Included is how to read a material safety data sheet (MSDS), chemical container labeling, chemical hazards, chemical handling and basic personal protective equipment.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: All employees who handle, store, distribute, transport, dispense and use chemical products
  • Refresher: Chemical-specific training is 30 minute sessions, as needed

171 — Hazardous Energy Control Initial

This course instructs the participant on the types of hazardous energy identified within the District; the types of isolation devices used to control or eliminate hazardous energy as well as the devices used to secure isolation devices. Included are OCSD Hazardous Energy Control Program requirements for de-energizing and re-energizing of machines and equipment as well as the application and removal of lock out devices, locks and tagout devices.

  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM), College equipment technicians
  • Refresher: Annual (Academic side: 1 class offered/semester)

172 — Hazardous Materials Spill Response / Hazardous Waste Management

This course instructs the participant on the proper methodologies for cleaning up small spills of hazardous materials. Included is hazard assessment, PPE selection, clean up materials, and proper packaging and containerization of clean up materials. This course additionally instructs participants on the proper management of hazardous waste. This includes identification, containerization, labeling, storage and disposal of hazardous waste.

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Recommended Audience: All laboratory employees who use small quantities of hazardous materials
  • Refresher: As needed (Academic side: 1 class offered/semester)

173 — Hazardous Waste Management Refresher

Refresher class for initial “Hazardous Waste Management” course.

  • Duration: 1 hour
  • Recommended Audience: All laboratory employees and other employees that generate hazardous waste
  • Refresher: Annual

180 — Injury and Illness Prevention (IIPP)

This course instructs the participant on the district’s injury and illness prevention program. Included are the district’s responsibilities for safety, the employee’s responsibility for safety, accident reporting and investigation, safety committees, how to report unsafe conditions and a general overview of other district safety programs.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: All university employees (new and current)
  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed

181 — Incident Command (IC) - NIMS

This course instructs the participants on incident command structure. Included are position descriptions, unified command, documentation, EOC’s and incident command basics.

  • Duration: 8 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Emergency managers, Emergency response personnel, Search & Rescue (SAR)
  • Refresher: Biennial

182 — Incident / Accident Investigation

This course instructs the participant on how to properly conduct an accident investigation (industrial, occupational, vehicle). Topics include fact finding, root cause analysis and report writing.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Director, Managers, Supervisors, Safety Committee Members, New MPPs
  • Refresher: Biennial

210 — Laboratory Safety (Chemical Hygiene)

This course instructs the participants in basic laboratory safety. Included are PPE for the lab, chemical handling, cylinder safety, material handling, FRA response, ventilation and container labeling.

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Recommended Audience: University personnel who regularly work in laboratories, clinics, and material-testing facilities
  • Refresher: 1 class/semester

211 — Lead-related Construction Work

This course instructs the participants on the requirements of the University’s lead-compliance program.

  • Duration: 3 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM)
  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed

220 — Mobile Crane

This course instructs the participants on how to properly and safely operate mobile cranes. Included are pre-use inspections, controls, lifts, load movement. This course requires a qualification exam at completion of the course.

  • Recommended Audience: Facilities Maintenance (FM) equipment operators
  • Refresher: Biennial

221 — Mobile Crane Special (Over 7.5 ton and over-head)

This course instructs the participants on how to properly and safely operate mobile cranes. Included are pre-use inspections, controls, lifts, load movement. This course requires a qualification exam at completion of the course.

240 — Office Ergonomics

This course instructs the participants how to set up their office workstation to minimize repetitive motion injuries. Included are self-evaluations, proper furniture adjustment, exercises, proper posture and medical management of reported injuries.

250 — Pesticide Safety

This course provides instruction for pesticide applicator license CEUs.

  • Duration: 8 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Grounds employees

270 — Return to Work Program

This course will instruct the supervisors & MPPs on the University’s revised Return to Work Program. It will detail the responsibilities of the Supervisor including the transitional employment plan and the interaction with the Return to Work Committee.

  • Recommended Audience: New Supervisors & MPPs (Essentials Class), ASMs (Annual)
  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed

271 — Rigging

This course instructs the participants on how to properly and safely rig loads for crane lifts. Included are pre-use inspections, controls, lifts, load movement. This course requires a qualification exam at completion of the course.

280 — Scissor Lift

This course instructs the participants on cart pre-use inspection, safe operation of scissor lifts, required PPE and fall restraint.

281 — Search and Rescue (SAR) Team Training Series - Initial

This course consists of 6 two-hour lecture modules and 4 field exercises that detail the element of the University’s SAR procedures manual.

  • Duration: 2 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Search and Rescue (SAR) Team
  • Refresher: Annually

282 — Search and Rescue (SAR) Team Training Series - Refresher

This course consists of a combination of lecture and field exercises based on policy/procedure revisions, regulatory changes and/or actual response scenarios.

  • Duration: 4 hours
  • Recommended Audience: Search and Rescue (SAR) Team
  • Refresher: Semi-annual

290 — Trenching / Shoring (Competent Person)

This course instructs the participants to become competent persons related to trenching/shoring operations during construction. A qualifying examination is required at the completion of this course.

  • Refresher: One time course, but may be repeated as needed

320 — Workers’ Compensation & Access to Employee Medical Records

This course will provide information on work-related injury and illness reporting, as well as the mechanics of the workers’ compensation program. It will review the role of the supervisor and ASM in the proper reporting procedures; and communicating with the injured or ill employee. The course will also instruct the participants on their rights for access to medical records.
