PURPOSE AND SCOPE

Staff and management employees are provided certain rights and privileges upon retirement. This guideline outlines the process and procedures in designating an employee as a Staff Emeritus.

GUIDELINE STATEMENT

Eligibility

Any staff or management employee who voluntarily separates and retires in good standing with a minimum of ten (10) years of full time employment service to CSULB is eligible for Staff Emeritus status.

Rights and Privileges

Upon obtaining Emeritus status, staff or management employees are entitled to:

  1. Obtain a Staff Emeritus identification card which provides the usual attendant rights and privileges for Staff Emeriti/a. Application for the CSULB ID Card Application and Agreement can be found at www.BeachID.com.  Once the form is completed, it is returned to Staff Human Resources and validated for eligibility, then taken to ID Card Services.  Forms are also available at the front counter in Staff Human Resources.
  2. Continuation of a University-provided email account after retirement date. If at any time an Emeriti email account is not accessed for twelve months, the account will be closed. For assistance with any email questions contact the Technology Help Desk at (562) 985-4959, email helpdesk@csulb.edu, or on the web at https://helpdesk.csulb.edu.
  3. Access to the University Library and its services.
  4. Free parking whenever you visit campus. Please note that Staff Emeriti who are returning to campus as “rehired annuitants” to work are not eligible for complimentary parking, and must purchase a parking permit. Please refer to the Parking and Transportation Services Employees website for more information.
  5. 10% discount on all University Bookstore purchases (excluding textbooks, use at the campus convenience stores, and at the Computer Store).
  6. Invitation to join the Association of Emeriti and Retired Faculty and Staff whose membership meets for social gatherings, keeps current on campus happenings, and supports student scholarships. Contact the CSULB Alumni Association at (562) 985-2539, michelle.avilez@csulb.edu or www.csulb.edu/alumni
  7. The office of Staff Human Resources maintains a list of retirees who are interested in paid or voluntary part-time, full-time, or intermittent temporary, short-term work assignments on campus, Campus departments may have a need to employ “rehired annuitants” for “as needed” assignments.  Please contact Staff Human Resources at (562) 985-4031 or via email at staffhr@csulb.edu once you have been retired for 180 days if you are interested.

Changes to Guidelines and Procedures

The rights and privileges offered to Staff Emeriti are subject to change without notice and do not establish any right to the continuation of the rights and privileges received at the time of retirement. The rights and privileges outlined in this guideline supersede any previous rights and privileges provided to Staff Emeriti.

PROCEDURES

Staff or management employees interested in obtaining Emeritus status upon retirement must contact Staff Human Resources to initiate the request process. Employees awarded Emeritus status will receive a letter from the Staff Human Resources Director outlining rights and privileges.
